By day, Cozumel is a haven for reef divers and sun-chasers exploring the ins and outs of some of the world’s most famous reefs like Palancar Gardens, Santa Rosa Wall, and Colombia reef. But when the sun sets and the marina falls quiet, the island switches to a different beat, one of smoky mezcal, rooftop bars, salsa steps, and tacos that taste better after midnight.
Whether you're winding down from a day on the boat or just chasing good vibes after a beach day, these local favourites offer a mix of flavour, music, and culture. Each of them brings something unique to the table and the dance floor, making your night out in Cozumel an unforgettable one.

1: MezcaltecaÂ
Calle Dr. Adolfo Rosado Salas 198-10aÂ
Monday–Saturday, 3 PM to 1 AMÂ
A mezcal bar with serious character. Mezcalteca serves rare infusions of Mexican mezcal. Think rattlesnake, scorpion, and fruit blends with a side of pulque and spicy crickets for the braver… or drunker individuals. The ambiance is cool and intimate with outside seating, moody lighting, live music that kicks in late, as well as the occasional game night of Loteria and chess. Their Mezcal is island-famous, and the staff are deeply knowledgeable about mezcal rituals. The crowd is a mix of Cozumel locals, conservationists, and in-the-know travellers all bonding over shots of smoky mezcal.
Try the esquites, pozole, and a smoky pour with exotic infusions.

Av. Rafael E. Melgar, between Calle 2 Nte and 4 Nte
Daily, 8 AM to midnight (until 3 AM weekends)Â Â
A rooftop café-bar hybrid with three floors that shifts from espresso to espresso martinis as the sun sets. With pastries, a huge selection of craft cocktails, and a harbour-view terrace, it’s a favourite for remote workers by day and social butterfly expats by night. Their 2-for-1 margarita happy hour is an oasis, and live music or DJ sets often pop up on weekends. The multiple floors mean you can match your vibe for the night with whatever suits you: feeling like a game of pool? Head to floor 2, with a room dedicated to practicing your shots, not far from vintage arcade games. Want to chill after a long day of diving? Floor one is perfect for a light drink and snack over a board game or table football. Aqui + Ahora is the perfect place to meet with friends, catch the famous Cozumel sunset, and all with a margarita in your hand.
Don’t miss the mezcal mule, margaritas, churros, and games.

Avenida Rafael E. Melgar 590, Second Floor.
Daily, 10 AM to 2 AM
Craft beer heaven with over 100 brews from Mexico and beyond, all in a cosy open rooftop bar with a menu uniquely formatted on an Excel spreadsheet. Missing a beer from home? La international is the place to find it! The vibe is cozy but eclectic, with a terrace that overlooks the waterfront and the occasional live music band. A little out from the main square, it’s where locals gather to escape the crowds and enjoy a cold one. It’s the kind of place where you come for one drink and stay for three rounds and a tequila shot.
Don’t miss the flavoured pulque and over 100 beers on offer.

5a Avenida Norte x Juárez y Calle 2 Nte
Salsa Night: Wednesdays, 9 PM onward
Â
Every Wednesday, Wet Wendy’s transforms into a salsa haven with live bands and a dance floor that welcomes all levels. Their margaritas are legendary, served in towering glasses, and the crowd is always buzzing. It’s downtown, it’s loud, and it’s unapologetically fun. Centrally located, it’s a favourite for tourists and expats alike, as well as locals with salsa in their blood. The place is huge and normally packed with people celebrating birthdays or parties on large tables after a few drinks.
Â
Try the chocolate margarita or mango-chili frozen blend, and of course, try salsa!

10a Avenida Sur 229, CentroÂ
Daily, 11 AM to 11 PMÂ
Cozumel’s first and only microbrewery is a true local treasure. CervecerÃa Punta Sur brews everything on-site, from crisp lagers to bold stouts and a standout Jamaica Wheat Ale. The vibe is tropical and relaxed, with wood-fired pizzas, handmade empanadas, and even lionfish specials that nod to the island’s conservation efforts from the invasive species. The vibes are relaxed and homely as you sit next to the kegs that brew the exact beer you are sipping on with friends.
Go for the caramelized onion pizza and whatever new beer they start brewing.Â
Â

Av Lic Benito Juárez 373, Centro
Daily (except Wednesdays), 4:30 PM to 11:30 PMÂ
When the music fades and the margaritas hit, this is where to refuel. TaquerÃa El Mexicano is a cozy, no-nonsense spot; beloved by locals for its authentic tacos and unbeatable prices. Open late and always buzzing, it’s the kind of place where suadero, pastor, and carnitas are served hot and fast, perfect for soaking up a night of mezcal and dancing. If you are too tired, take it home and recover from the night at home with some world-class Mexican tacos.
Top picks: tacos al pastor, enchiladas verdes, burritos de carnitas
