Ecology

Fairly common on coral and rocky reefs. Seen mostly in pairs, but also as individuals and in small groups.

Description

Adults measure 10 to 18 inches in length, with a maximum length of 2 feet. They possess a gray body and a yellow inner surface on the pectoral fin. Juveniles range from 2 to 5 inches in length, displaying a black body with yellow bars and a yellow ring encircling the mouth.
