Ecology

This species lives on coral reefs and in shallow water. Even though they prefer live corals, Damselfishes can be found among dead corals as well. They primarily feed algae, but also polyps of fire coral and other invertebrate material.

Description

Reaches a length of 4 to 6.5 inches, with a maximum recorded length of 7.5 inches. Adults possess a dark body ranging in color from brown to bluish-black, while juveniles display a dark blue body adorned with bright blue spots. Both juveniles and adults have a yellow fin.
